5 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR SKIN AT HOME.

Aside from skincare and facials, there are easy ways to improve your skin right at home. Take a look at these suggestions and see if you discover a new way to benefit the skin you’re in.

1. SILK PILLOWCASES

It sounds cliche, but it’s actually true. Silk pillowcases cause less friction, are more temperate than cotton, and allow your skin to retain its moisture. It’s a better alternate in every way compared to cotton, especially compared to textured cotton pillowcases.

Tip: grab 2-3 sets of silk / satin pillowcases so that you can regularly change them throughout the week.

2. USING LUKEWARM WATER

There’s no need to use cold water on your skin, but using excessively warm or hot water could lead to noticeable dehydration or a compromised skin barrier! This also goes for washing your skin in the shower.

Washing your skin in the shower itself isn’t a bad thing- it’s the lava-like temperature of the water… (If you’re anything like me). So, use your best judgement… If you take lukewarm water showers, wash your skin while you’re at it! If you’re showering on the surface of the sun, better wait until you’re out of the shower to start your routine.

Room temperature, or lukewarm, is best when doing your skincare.

3. AVOIDING STRAWS

More and more people are growing concerned about the lines around their lips. There are other lifestyle influences that can worsen fine lines around the lips as well. Though straws have taken the lead as most popular culprit.

By the times are noticeable and settled, the longer it takes to see improvement. So, best to be extra aware of straw usage if fine lines are something you may not prefer in the future!

4. DOUBLE CHECKING YOUR VITAMINS / SUPPLEMENTS FOR HIDDEN ACNE TRIGGERS

Daily supplements can be a great thing! Though if you’re struggling with breakouts, be on the lookout for the following: Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6, Ashwagandha, and the sneakiest, Biotin.

When taking more than the recommended daily value, these could potentially be leading to further hormonal-like breakouts. Except Biotin… Biotin is definitely leading to deep, painful breakouts if you’re acne prone.

How? Well, Biotin cranks your oil production dial up to the max, which is far more than the skin shedding process can handle. So, you’re turning up the oil production and your skin can’t shed quickly enough to keep up with it. Acne prone skin already doesn’t shed as timely as non-acne prone. Best to put the Biotin down.

5. LEAVING MAKE UP ON FOR TOO LONG

Leaving make up on for most of our time awake is not great for our skin. Where it for as long as you’re comfortable, but try to be extra mindful of how early you can actually remove it.

You don’t have to start your nighttime routine right before bed. Come home, double cleanse and moisturize (and SPF if it’s before 5pm). Then, you’re saving yourself the make up removing step later, and refreshing your skin sooner. It doesn't seem like it’d make that big of a difference, but it actually does!

Plus, we should feel more comfortable with our skin without make up than with, so this is a nice way to practice that.
